About Immobiliser

Modern cars have sophisticated and complex security systems designed to project the vehicle from theft. These systems are controlled by an electronic control unit (ECU).

The ECU controls the vehicles security including remote and key central locking, engine immobilisation and the alarm. The components work together to ensure that the vehicle cannot be unlocked or started without the key or remote present. When the Freelander Land Rover immobiliser is armed by the ECU the engine is not able to be started via ‘hot wiring’ of the ignition barrel.

Most cars are factory fitted with an immobiliser, however, cars without can be retrofitted using either oem or aftermarket units.

Freelander Land Rover immobiliser systems are susceptible to electrical issues, damaged transponders or remotes including loss of synchronisation with the cars ECU.
