About Immobiliser

Modern cars have sophisticated and complex security systems designed to project the vehicle from theft. These systems are controlled by an electronic control unit (ECU).

The ECU controls the vehicles security including remote and key central locking, engine immobilisation and the alarm. The components work together to ensure that the vehicle cannot be unlocked or started without the key or remote present. When the Auris Toyota immobiliser is armed by the ECU the engine is not able to be started via ‘hot wiring’ of the ignition barrel.

Most cars are factory fitted with an immobiliser, however, cars without can be retrofitted using either oem or aftermarket units.

Auris Toyota immobiliser systems are susceptible to electrical issues, damaged transponders or remotes including loss of synchronisation with the cars ECU.

Toyota trivia

  • The founder's son, Kiichiro Toyoda, did a trip around the US to get inspiration for car designs. That's why those early Toyota cars look more than a little bit like Chevrolets and Dodge Power Wagons.
  • Incredibly, there are more Toyota made cars on the world's roads than any other vehicle. It's not just high sales figures that make that viable either. Their durability means that even Toyotas that were sold 20 years ago are still on the road!
  • Toyota has thousands and thousands of patents, and in 2019 it gave away an incredible 23,740 patents that had been awarded over more than 20 years. Those patents were all focused on electric vehicle technology.
  • As well as the best selling car of all time, Toyota is also responsible for the longest-running production on a car model ever. The Toyota model Land Cruiser started production in 1951, and as of 2019 has sold over 10 million units!
  • Without the US, Toyota very likely wouldn't exist today as we know it. In 1950, the car company was struggling to fight off bankruptcy and only managed to make 300 trucks until the Korean War kicked off. The US then put in an order for 5,000 vehicles, transforming the company and its future.
