About Exhaust Manifold

The Astra Vauxhall Exhaust Manifold is a cast, branched tubular alloy unit, which is attached to the cylinder head, the shape corresponds with the position of the exhaust valves in the head. The exhaust emissions from the engine pass through the manifold which connects to the exhaust pipe system.

On a V configured engine there will be two Cylinder heads and therefore two exhaust manifolds which are bolted to the side of the heads. As the exhaust valves open within the head the fumes are forced into the manifold and into the exhaust system.

The reason for changing the Astra Vauxhall exhaust manifold is usually due to leakage through a hole or crack caused by heat and corrosion. A new sealing gasket is required for replacement of the manifold.

Vauxhall Astra trivia

  • In South Africa, drivers could buy the MK3 Astra, which came with a turbo-charged C20LET engine. The car was sold as the 200ts, and only one has ever been seen in the UK. Luckily, the C20LET supercharged engine was also used in the Calibra and Cavalier Turbo, so Brits could still experience the thrill.
  • The 2013 Astra used in the TV show Top Gear that was raced by celebrities went up for auction in 2019. After being driven by 22 celebrities, including Hugh Jackman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Will Smith, and Olly Murs (the fastest driver in the fun contest), the car sold for £6,000 despite not being roadworthy. There are claims that the Top Gear Astra has been seen by more people than any other car in the world, ever.
  • The Astra sold exceptionally well in the UK, and it quickly became the second most popular small family car in the country (after the Ford Escort). The Mark 2 Astra sold even more and came very close to the Escort in terms of sales.
  • The Bedford Astravan is the van version of the classic Vauxhall Astra!
  • The first two generations of the Vauxhall Astra were right-hand drive and were called the Opel Kadett in the UK before the Opel and Vauxhall names were merged.
