About Immobiliser
Modern cars have sophisticated and complex security systems designed to project the vehicle from theft. These systems are controlled by an electronic control unit (ECU).
The ECU controls the vehicles security including remote and key central locking, engine immobilisation and the alarm. The components work together to ensure that the vehicle cannot be unlocked or started without the key or remote present. When the 33 Alfa Romeo immobiliser is armed by the ECU the engine is not able to be started via ‘hot wiring’ of the ignition barrel.
Most cars are factory fitted with an immobiliser, however, cars without can be retrofitted using either oem or aftermarket units.
33 Alfa Romeo immobiliser systems are susceptible to electrical issues, damaged transponders or remotes including loss of synchronisation with the cars ECU.
Alfa Romeo trivia
- One of the most famous onscreen appearances of an Alfa Romeo was in the James Bond film Octopussy when the superspy stole a graphite GTV6. The car brand shows up again in Quantum of Solace, racing against Bond’s Aston Martin.
- Alfa is an acronym, standing for Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili, but few people are aware of where the word Romeo came from. It’s actually the surname of the Italian engineer Nicola Romeo, who bought the company as WWI was raging.
- The Alfa Romeo logo has some really weird imagery. There are dashes of the Milanese coat of arms, and a terrifying picture of a snake eating a man. That image comes from the Visconti family crest, who used to rule Milan.
- Due to tax shenanigans, the very first Alfa-branded car was named the 24HP, even though it came with a 25 horsepower 4.1-litre engine. It was quick and could do a satisfying 62mph, despite having wooden spoke wheels.
- The history of Alfa Romeo has more than a touch of Ferrari in it. Enzo Ferrari himself was the man who ran the racing team of Alfa Romeo, and he did so for around a decade. That world-famous prancing pony logo was even seen on more than a few Alfa Romeo sports cars.
