About Accelerator Pedal

The C1 Citroen accelerator pedal manages the throttle valve which controls the flow of air in your engine and in turn dictates the amount of fuel released into your engine. Ultimately the C1 Citroen accelerator pedal, by regulating the air and fuel flowing into your engine, controls the speed at which your car travels.

The C1 Citroen accelerator pedal is located in the footwell of your car. It is the pedal on the right hand side next to the brake pedal.

When you press down on the C1 Citroen accelerator pedal, this causes the throttle valve to open up, allowing more air to flow in. The engine control unit recognizes that the throttle valve is open and in turn regulates the amount of fuel entering the engine in readiness for the increased flow of air in the engine. In essence, when you press the C1 Citroen accelerator pedal with your foot, this makes your car go faster.

In a worst case scenario, the accelerator pedal can malfunction and get stuck fast, but this is rare. C1 Citroen accelerator pedals do wear down over time, however, and you will eventually need to buy a new part for your car. Symptoms of this will include a sticky accelerator pedal or one that is harder to press down with your foot. A faulty C1 Citroen accelerator pedal can get sticky when the throttle valve it connects to, which lets the air into the engine, gets clogged up with waste carbon. Generally speaking, if the compression of your foot on the C1 Citroen accelerator pedal is not a smooth and easy process then you should ask your mechanic if it needs a replacement.

Citroen trivia

  • The 1934 Citroën 7CV was the first mass-produced car to have front-wheel drive, hydraulic brakes, and real suspension! This basic design found its way into subsequent models right up until three decades later in the mid-1950s.
  • Citroën was the first company to offer credit for buying cars! André Citroën registered a consumer credit company for the sole purpose of providing car buyers with the credit they'd need to buy one of his cars!
  • Citroën cars have been put through their paces and all in the name of advertising. Citroën vehicles have trekked huge distances for promotional reasons, including expeditions across the Sahara, throughout Africa, all over Asia, and even across Alaska.
  • The founder of the company, André Citroën, is renowned as something of a genius when it comes to marketing. He specifically targeted adverts for the 1922 Citroën Type C at women owners, and soon after the car became very popular, earning the nickname 'Petit Citron' after the distinctive lemon yellow paint job.
  • Unfortunately, the founder of Citroën went bankrupt in 1934, even though the cars they produced were selling well and incredibly popular. The company exists today because tyre company Michelin bought the majority of shares in the company.
