About Immobiliser

Modern cars have sophisticated and complex security systems designed to project the vehicle from theft. These systems are controlled by an electronic control unit (ECU).

The ECU controls the vehicles security including remote and key central locking, engine immobilisation and the alarm. The components work together to ensure that the vehicle cannot be unlocked or started without the key or remote present. When the Navara Nissan immobiliser is armed by the ECU the engine is not able to be started via ‘hot wiring’ of the ignition barrel.

Most cars are factory fitted with an immobiliser, however, cars without can be retrofitted using either oem or aftermarket units.

Navara Nissan immobiliser systems are susceptible to electrical issues, damaged transponders or remotes including loss of synchronisation with the cars ECU.

Nissan trivia

  • Since 2018, Nissan has become the largest manufacturer of electric vehicles in the world. They have so far produced as many as 320,000 electric cars.
  • There are a lot of popular SUVs, but the Nissan X-Trail takes top place as the best selling model in the world. In 2017 alone, global sales of the X-Trail amounted to 814,000 units sold!
  • Most people think of the Skyline when they think of the Nissan, but the car featured in the Fast and the Furious franchise wasn't actually designed or built by Nissan. Instead, it was built by a car company called Prince, which Nissan merged with in 1966. The name Prince was phased out, and the Nissan Skyline was born.
  • Nissan used to be called Datson, which was then changed to Datsun because son in Japanese means disadvantage. Eventually, there was a complete rebrand, and the name Nissan was born.
  • The Nissan Patrol is a powerhouse of a vehicle, and currently holds the world record for a production car pulling an aircraft. The SUV wasn’t allowed any modifications to tackle this impressive feat, and managed to pull the 170-tonne plane a massive 50 metres.
