About Steering Pump Electrics
The Ivecoelectric steering pump forms part of a hydraulic power assisted steering system and is not to be confused with electric power steering, which operates without a belt-driven hydraulic pump. An Ivecoelectric steering pump is found in what is sometimes described as electro-hydraulic or hybrid power steering systems. This type of system uses the same source of hydraulic pressure to provide the steering assistance but the hydraulic fluid is pumped out of the reservoir by an Ivecoelectric steering pump rather than a belt driven by the engine.
The speed of the pump is regulated by an electric controller which has the ability to vary pump pressure and flow. This tailors the system’s contribution to the steering efforts to different driving situations. This means that the Ivecoelectric steering pump can operate at higher speed and thereby provide greater steering assistance when the car is being driven slowly. This is especially helpful in providing assistance when the vehicle is being parked. A further advantage is that the pump can be operated at low speed or shut down completely to provide energy savings when driving in a straight line.
The Ivecoelectric steering pump therefore plays an important role in operating a hydraulic power assisted steering system and is an effective alternative to an engine driven pump.
Iveco trivia
- Between 1975 and 1979 alone, Iveco had more than 200 basic vehicles for sale, with over 600 versions in total! No wonder they had got such a big market share so quickly.
- The IAA Motor Show is a chance for car manufacturers to show off their newest models and it's one of the big annual events for car lovers. In 2018, Iveco had a stand that didn't have a single diesel engine included. Instead, their vehicles were all powered by either electricity, CNG, or LNG.
- In 2012, Iveco started partnering with supermarket chain Asda and delivered 250 delivery vehicles to the chain's fleet. The total order was for 700 vehicles.
- There's an ongoing partnership between Iveco, FPT, and Nikola. The goal is to create a mass-produced electric vehicle. As of 2019, the first prototype was rolled out, but production is not expected to start until 2021.
- While Iveco is certainly affiliated with big names like Ford and Jeep, the fact is that Iveco vehicles are uniquely designed, and they share very little of their underpinnings with even their closest partners.
