About Link Arms
A Jaguar link arm connects the suspension of the vehicle to its frame using bushings and is attached to the wheels through ball joints. There are typically two rear link arms on a vehicle, and a further two on the front of the vehicle.
The Jaguar link arm plays a key part in the vehicle’s suspension system as it is responsible for allowing tyres to move up and down freely and in line with the vehicle’s body. If a control arm needs replacing, the ride would be noticeably less smooth.
When a Jaguar link arm wears down and needs to be replaced you may notice that your tyres are not wearing evenly, or wear quickly. It is also possible that a Jaguar link arm may break if you drive over a large pothole or bump. In either of these events, the control arm should be replaced. It is also common for bushes and ball joints to be replaced at the same time if wear and tear is the cause.
After replacing a link arm, it is important that your wheels are also aligned to avoid uneven tyre wear.
Jaguar trivia
- The first-ever XK120 rolled off the production line and was delivered immediately to Clark Gable, who had preordered it well in advance. The XK120 came with a removable windscreen and could hit a solid 120mph..
- Talk about testing your car! Jaguars are put through a very rigorous climate test, where they are first tested in -40 degrees for twelve hours. Once that's done, the cars are then sprayed with water while standing in a 0-degree wind tunnel. That's why they cope so well with British weather.
- Jaguar isn't a big name in F1, but they did have a go. They raced between 2000 and 2004 but didn't perform well enough to justify the costs. They managed a less than stellar ninth place in their final race.
- The 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the most gruelling and famous race events in the world, has been won by Jaguar an astonishing seven times. Their first victory was back in 1951.
- The 2014 Superbowl advert for Jaguar featured Brit actors Ben Kingsley and Mark Strong, with a terrified Tom Hiddlestone hanging out of a helicopter as it flew across London. Not many people know that the driver used for this advert was The Stig (Ben Collins).
