About Clutch Master Cylinders

A Jeep clutch master cylinder is essential in the operation of the clutch. The clutch is responsible for disconnecting the engine when you bring the vehicle to a stop. The Jeep clutch master cylinder is connected to a reservoir that stores hydraulic fluid. When the driver presses the clutch pedal the pressure from this act pushes an adjoining rod which is connected to the Jeep clutch master cylinder. The Jeep clutch master cylinder converts this mechanical pressure into hydraulic pressure by transferring the hydraulic fluid to the slave cylinder. This pressure is then applied to an attached pressure plate and finally to the clutch release bearing which brings the clutch in to operation.

If you have an issue with the master cylinder you may first notice that you have trouble switching gears. You may also notice brake fluid by the pedals in the vehicle’s foot well, suggesting a fluid leak. A loud screech may also be noticed when holding down the clutch pedal with the brake down. You may also notice less resistance when depressing the clutch pedal or a clutch pedal that is stuck to the floor. This indicates the master cylinder needs replacing immediately.

Jeep trivia

  • Although they were designed for the military, it didn't take long before Jeep released a version for civilians. The CJ-2A had several features that were lacking on the military versions, such as a tailgate, a side-mounted spare tire, and an external fuel cap.
  • The original Jeep was designed in only two days! The prototype took 75 days to be built and then delivered to the US army that had commissioned the vehicle.
  • It's not something that you'll be able to find to buy, but there was a prototype of a Jeep made in 1945 that could fly. The vehicle was called the Hafner Rotabuggy, and it had blades like a helicopter.
  • In the action film, Furious 7, a customised Jeep dropped out of an aeroplane, along with some of the other classic cars used in the film. Usually, this kind of stunt would use only the chassis of the cars, but for F7, they just dropped the fully built cars from the cargo plane and hoped for the best.
  • Jeep has had eight different owners to date. The current owners of the iconic brand are Fiat-Chrysler, but the name has been owned by recognisable names like Renault and AMC.
