About Catalytic Converters

The Kia catalytic converter is part of your car's exhaust system. The exhaust system has the important job of removing the toxic exhaust fumes produced by the engine from your car. It also functions to enhance engine performance, minimise noise produced when driving, reduce CO2 emissions and improve fuel efficiency.

The Kia catalytic converter sits between the exhaust manifold and the rear exhaust box.

The Kia catalytic converter's job is to change the harmful emissions created in the combustion chamber into water vapour and carbon dioxide. This means the harmful toxins produced in the engine are changed to the less harmless emissions before leaving the car and entering the atmosphere.

The Kia catalytic converter is prone to damage from road debris such as stones, mud, water and can suffer from damage due to overheating. Antifreeze or motor oil getting into the catalytic converter can cause real issues. It is vital to replace the Kia catalytic converter as soon as possible if this happens as it could ruin the whole exhaust system if left and your car's carbon emissions could be higher than is legal or safe. If your car is consuming much more fuel than usual it's a sign that there is a problem with the catalytic converter. If the Kia catalytic converter fails it is important to replace it with one that is compatible with the make and model of your car.

Kia trivia

  • The vast majority of Kia cars are named after geographical terms. The Cerato is Greek for 'peak', and Sorento is an Italian city.
  • It wasn't until 1974 that Kia produced their first car. Before that, they focused on bicycles and motorbikes. By 1998, they had produced their one-millionth car! Kia were the company that produced South Korea's first-ever bicycle, first-ever motorbike, and first-ever domestic truck.
  • A deal with 20th Century Fox saw Kia build special editions of the Kia Sportage and Sorento. The tie-in was with the X-Men: Apocalypse movie, and while the Sportage resembles the shape-shifting character of Mystique, the Sorento looked incredible with it's Wolverine inspired claws.
  • The first major commercial hit for Kia was The Pride. Not many people know that the design of the car was based on the Ford Festiva, with a few slight changes that made it easier for South Korea's drivers to get used to.
  • Kia doesn't quite have a production facility on every continent (they don't have one in Australia), but they are present in 190 countries and have over 5000 dealerships.
