About Immobilisers

Modern cars have sophisticated and complex security systems designed to project the vehicle from theft. These systems are controlled by an electronic control unit (ECU).

The ECU controls the vehicles security including remote and key central locking, engine immobilisation and the alarm. The components work together to ensure that the vehicle cannot be unlocked or started without the key or remote present. When the <Model> immobiliser is armed by the ECU the engine is not able to be started via ‘hot wiring’ of the ignition barrel.

Most cars are factory fitted with an immobiliser, however, cars without can be retrofitted using either oem or aftermarket units.

<Model> immobiliser systems are susceptible to electrical issues, damaged transponders or remotes including loss of synchronisation with the cars ECU.

MINI trivia

  • The Oxford MINI factory has made more than 3 million cars.
  • The Mini's designer, Sir Alec Issigonis, didn't like car windows that had to be rolled down. In fact, he didn't think that cars should have side windows at all!
  • 10 years after he invented the Austin Mini, Sir Alec Issigonis was knighted in 1969 for his contribution to Britain.
  • Consistently voted the most popular British car of all time, there are almost 500 specialist car clubs dedicated to the various makes and models of Mini. And that's just in Britain. Globally, there are an additional 260 clubs all celebrating the Mini make.
  • In 1959 you could buy yourself a brand new Mini for just £497. That's about £2,342 in today's money. At the time, Minis were owned by members of The Beatles and (much to everyone's surprise) Enzo Ferrari.
