About Slam Panels

The MINI slam panel is a structural panel that functions to absorb some of the impact of a crash, helping to protect the occupants of the car.

Built to be strong and solid, the MINI slam panel is usually made of steel, and bolted onto the car, directly behind, and running the length of, the bumper.

The MINI slam panel acts as a structural support to the bumper. The bumper's job is to absorb the impact of a head on collision, offering protection to both the car, by minimising damage to the frame and body of the car, as well as internal and external parts; and also the passengers and driver travelling inside the car.

If your car has been in an accident and there's damage to the slam panel it will need replacing.  Buying a new MINI slam panel will ensure you get a part that's the right fit for the make and model of your car.

MINI trivia

  • It can be hard to keep track of all of the different companies that have owned MINI throughout its long history. At the moment, the name is owned by BMW, and MINI has its own independent division.
  • MINI export their cars to 110 different countries. The most popular markets are the US, Germany, and China. The UK is only the second biggest market for MINI.
  • It takes between five and eight days to build a Mini from scratch.
  • The Mini Copper gets its name from F1 car designer John Copper.
  • In 1959 you could buy yourself a brand new Mini for just £497. That's about £2,342 in today's money. At the time, Minis were owned by members of The Beatles and (much to everyone's surprise) Enzo Ferrari.
