About Brake Hoses

The Peugeot brake hose is the pipe system that contains the hydraulic fluid that is an integral part of the braking system. When the footbrake is applied the fluid is forced, via a master cylinder and brake servo system, through the pipes to the pistons in the calipers in each wheel, which forces the pads onto the brake discs, or the brake shoes onto the inside of the drums, and this slows the spinning of the wheels.

The brake hoses are made up of rigid and flexible pipes. The rigid pipe is usually made of steel and may be plastic coated and is fixed to the bodywork. It runs from the engine compartment under the car to each wheel. There is a flexible section that connects the rigid pipe to the wheel brake backplate and into the brake piston on each wheel. The flexible pipe is a made of rubber encased in braided metal.

Problems with brake hoses are commonly caused by corrosion or chafing resulting in leakage of the hydraulic fluid and resulting loss of pressure and brake failure. New piping is supplied pre-formed to fit every particular make and model as it has to follow a certain route and length. Peugeot brake hose is the ideal replacement, designed specifically for the make and model of your vehicle.

Peugeot trivia

  • It was also in 1913 (some might say because of the Indy 500 win) that Peugeot were responsible for the production of half of all of the cars in France. That quickly made them one of the world's biggest names in the automotive industry.
  • It's a dubious claim to fame, but the first recorded stolen car was a Peugeot! The car, belonging to Baron de Zuylen, was nicked by his mechanic in 1896, but the thief was caught, and the car returned to its rightful owner.
  • Peugeot might not be a name in Formula 1 (they did try a few times, but it never quite worked out), but they have been dominant in other races. In particular, four victories in an incredible 24 hours at Le Mans, and six impressive wins in the Dakar rally, to name just a few.
  • Lots of car manufacturers tried building electric vehicles at some point, but Peugeot had more success than others in the 1940s! Fuel restrictions promoted the design, and the car came with four 12-volt batteries that meant a range of 80km on a single charge and a top speed of 32km/h.
  • It's hard to believe, but the Peugeot company was founded in 1810! Of course, it didn't make cars then. Instead, it built pepper mills, salt mills and, eventually bicycles. It wasn't until 1889 that the first Peugeot car was made (they only made four of them, and they were powered by steam).
