About Glove Box Light Assemblys

A glove compartment is the compartment that is built into a vehicle’s dashboard. It is believed that it is so named because drivers would invariably wear gloves and the glove compartment, also known as the glove box, was what was used to store them. Although most models of vehicle have only a single glove compartment, which is located on the passenger side of the car above the footwell, some models do have more than one.

To assist in identifying the contents of the glove box, many manufacturers have included a light that  automatically switches on whenever the glove box is opened. This process is controlled by a component known as a Peugeotglove box light assembly.

A Peugeotglove box light assembly is located in the interior of the glove box. In a typical system, the switch contact in the Peugeotglove box light assembly is usually turned on. As soon as the glove box door is opened the light will come on. The contact is broken when a spring loaded lever is depressed by an arm that is connected to the glove box door. This happens when the glove box is closed, causing the light to go out.

If a glove box light assembly is faulty, it is relatively easy and inexpensive to access a replacement part from an auto electrical parts retailer or motor component shop.

Peugeot trivia

  • In 1913, one of Peugeot's motorsports team, Jules Goux, not only won the Indianapolis 500 but also broke the World Speed Record. He was the first European to win the Indy 500, and the 7.6-litre car was dubbed the fastest vehicle of the time.
  • Peugeot has won the European Car of the Year an incredible five times. The earliest win was in 1969, and the latest was as recently as 2017 (the Peugeot 3008).
  • Peugeots, especially the 504, are incredibly popular in Africa and have been affectionately called Africa's workhorse. The 504 is a model that seems particularly well-suited to the rough terrains of Kenya and Ghana.
  • You know the name Ettore Bugatti and the brand that bears his name, but did you know that Bugatti also designed the four-cylinder engine in 1912 for the Peugeot Bébé? You can't miss that unmistakable Bugatti look once you know that fact, and the car quickly became France's best selling car.
  • Lots of car manufacturers tried building electric vehicles at some point, but Peugeot had more success than others in the 1940s! Fuel restrictions promoted the design, and the car came with four 12-volt batteries that meant a range of 80km on a single charge and a top speed of 32km/h.
