About Suspension Coil Springs

A Renault suspension coil spring is a strong metal spring which is located in the front of the vehicle. Its primary function is to absorb the shock transferred to the vehicle when it drives over bumps in the road. The Renault suspension coil spring works by compressing when the vehicle drives over the bump. It’s this compression that diffuses the amount of pressure that is experienced by the vehicle and smooths the ride.

Renault suspension coil springs each have a rating, and it is important that if you replace a Renault suspension coil spring you replace it with one of the same rating. If one Renault suspension coil spring is damaged, both the coil springs in the vehicle should be replaced to ensure that the vehicle is driving with two matching rate springs. It is also likely that if one Renault suspension coil spring is damaged, the other is also damaged.

If a Renault suspension coil spring breaks, you are likely to hear it snap. This can be confirmed by examining the spring. Tyres can jump or wear unevenly if your vehicle has a broken spring.

Renault trivia

  • The fastest Renault ever made is the 1978 Alpine A443. It raced at Le Mans, and even with a less than intimidating 2.1ltr V6 engine it still managed an incredible 236mph.
  • If you’ve seen a six-wheeled Renault 5 in the UK, you might not have imagined it. Not many were made, and they are all in the hands of private collectors, one of which is rumoured to be a British car aficionado.
  • The Renault 8 was the first production car to come with a four-wheel disc brake system, and in 1980 the company filed a patent for a ‘braking distribution device for total adherence’.
  • The Renault seen in Indian Jones and the Last Crusade went up for auction in 2017. The car was seen in the exciting finale where Harrison Ford races on horseback to beat the Nazis to the holy grail. The car was valued at auction at just over £18,000.
  • Back in ‘96, Renault got a previously unheard of 4-star rating in the EuroNCAP crash test, designed to maximise passenger safety. At the time, this was the highest award that had ever been granted by the board.
