About ABS Pumps

An integral part of the ABS system, the Rover ABS pump is part of the hydraulic unit and works with the ABS Control Unit ECU and ABS modulator to regulate your car's braking system.

Fundamentally, the Rover ABS pump is part of a vital process which ensures you are able to maintain control of steering, enabling you to brake safely and smoothly by regulating the air pressure in the wheel brakes. The Rover pump plays its part in this process by pumping the pressure released from the brakes back up. When a wheel is likely to lock and skid, air pressure is adjusted in the brake chamber to stop this from happening and the Rover ABS pump ensures this pressure is pumped back up again.

As with all parts over time, your Rover ABS pump will end up wearing out. It is common for the pump motor to burn out with continued use and you will need to fit a new pump. If your Rover ABS pump isn't working, the ABS warning light will show on the dashboard. The ABS system will automatically stop working if there is a fault with your Rover ABS pump. Though you will be able to continue to use your brakes, you will not be assisted by ABS.

Rover trivia

  • In 1952, noted car journalist, Bob Dearborn, famously wrote in his Road & Track review that, "… I honestly believe (barring the Rolls-Royce) that there is no finer car built in the world today."
  • The iconic logo of Rover is a Viking longship. Currently, the rights to using that logo are in the hands of the Jaguar Land Rover group.
  • The MG Rover Group was the last mass-production car company in the UK to be owned by domestic owners.
  • MG Rover sold all of its key assets to the Nanjing Automobile Group in 2007 after going into administration.
  • The MGF is what is known as a part bin special, which isn't as bad as it sounds. It means that the MGF uses elements and (actual) parts from older cars. The vented front discs are the same as the Maestro and Montego.
