About Gearbox Mounts

The SEAT gearbox mount is an essential part of the vehicle’s gearbox and is used to support the driveshaft in the vehicle. The driveshaft connects with the rear vehicle axle and spins along with the engine to operate the vehicle’s gears. The SEAT gearbox mount helps to stabilise the vehicle’s gearbox and keeps it properly aligned in the vehicle. If the gearbox is incorrectly positioned in the vehicle the driveshaft will not be able to enter the transmission correctly, resulting in an inability to change gears easily. These SEAT gearbox mounts hold the weight of the majority of the gearbox. If a SEAT gearbox mount fails it may cause the gearbox housing to crack and become damaged.

It is recommended that if a SEAT gearbox mount fails it is replaced with its pair. If one mount has failed, it is likely that the other will be taking an unnatural amount of pressure and will most likely be near the end of its life too. With a failed SEAT gearbox mount, you may be able to hear a loud vibration or a clanking noise coming from the vehicle as the gearbox will be able to move considerably.

SEAT trivia

  • Colombian singer Shakira had a customised SEAT in 2007. She eventually sold the car, which was essentially just a Leon Cupra with a modified body, and gave the proceeds to charity.
  • The SEAT Mii Electric is their first attempt at an all-electric car. It has a range of 161 miles per charge.
  • The SEAT Ateca won the 2017 Fleet Management Awards for Best Midsize SUV, beating competitors like the BMW X1, the Range Rover Evoque, and the Kia Sportage.
  • 2019 was the best year of sales for SEAT when it sold an impressive 574,100 cars.
  • The SEAT Ibiza was designed by the same man who designed the Mark 1 VW Golf, the Lotus Esprit, and the DeLorean DMC-12. Giorgetto Giugiaro is well worth a Google.
