About Indicator Wiper Stalks

The Toyota indicator wiper stalk is attached to the steering column via a multi-connecting plug, and is operated by the driver using a lever. When the lever is pushed, the wipers that are located on the indicators start moving in an arcing motion to clean dirt from the vehicle’s indicators with the aid of washing fluid from the washer system. The indicators wipers are powered by a motor consisting of a series of 4 bar linkages.

Problems with the Toyota indicator wiper stalk can be caused through general wear and tear through consistent use. Many modern vehicles will display an error message or give warning if there is an issue with any element of the wiper system and it may be possible to diagnose the cause of stalk failure by using a circuit tester.

Other signs of Toyota indicator wiper stalk failure could be noticed by a ‘loose’ lever when attempting to operate the indicator wipers, which can be caused by a broken stalk or signs of burn out on the electronic components. A failed Toyota indicator wipe stalk may alternatively be too stiff to move easily which can cause the indicator wipers to stop functioning.

Toyota trivia

  • The Toyota Prius is just the latest example of why Toyota is widely considered the greenest company in the car industry. Consistent efforts at improving sustainability and eco-awareness led to them getting voted the number one Global Green Brand back in 2015.
  • The Toyota company got its start making automated looms in 1033. Founder Sakichi Toyoda even invented the automated loom and then sold them off to try and get into the car industry. There is still an arm of Toyota that is still in the textile industry!
  • Although Toyota started making its first cars in 1937, these were specifically produced to contribute to Japan's war effort. It wasn't until 1947 that they started producing cars for civilians.
  • They might be one of the biggest and well-known brand names in the world, but Toyota is still very much a family business. Every CEO so far has been a descendant of the original founder.
  • The founder's son, Kiichiro Toyoda, did a trip around the US to get inspiration for car designs. That's why those early Toyota cars look more than a little bit like Chevrolets and Dodge Power Wagons.
