About Headlight Switchs

The Vauxhall headlight switch operates the headlights in a vehicle. It’s located on the dashboard and when operated manually by the driver has the option of operating different lights depending on the driving conditions, for example; the fog light option could be used when driving in fog. Often, the Vauxhall headlight switch also has an option to decide the intensity of the light beam used when driving.

Some vehicles have automatic headlight operation which means that the on board computer decides if lights should be activated depending on the lighting conditions whilst driving. Some vehicles with this option also have a switch to enable the driver to turn the lights out if not needed.

If headlights are failing to light, the first thing to check is the headlight fuses. It may be however that the issue is with a bulb in which case this should be replaced. Vauxhall headlight switch failures are not uncommon due to the repeated use of this part when driving. Some vehicles will indicate their failure by using a warning light on the dashboard or a warning noise. If a switch fails it should be replaced so lights can be used as normal.

Vauxhall trivia

  • The colour yellow that Vauxhall uses on its cars is named 'Maddox Yellow,' after pensioner Richard Maddox had his Corsa vandalised. Residents of the small village of Arlington where Maddox lived thought the car and the colour were ugly!
  • If you thought you were seeing mostly grey Vauxhalls on the road, your eyes aren't going funny. It's the most popular colour for Vauxhall cars.
  • Not only did Vauxhall produce the first sports car in the world, but it was also the first company to produce a car that could go 100mph!
  • The Vauxhall Vectra was the last car they ever produced in Luton, and it went on to become one of their most poorly reviewed vehicles. Top Gear even put the '95 Vectra on their list of the worst cars of the last 20 years (Clarkson wouldn't even drive it!).
  • Vauxhall has been manufacturing cars continuously in Britain since 1903, making it the oldest car brand to survive in the UK.
