Mazda Premacy Overview

The Mazda Premacy is classed as a compact MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) which is produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturing company Mazda. This vehicle has been in production since 1999 and is currently in the third generation. After the first generation this vehicle was sold as the Mazda5 outside of Japan and the first and second generations were also rebranded as Ford vehicles: Ixion and iMAX for each generation respectively. These vehicles are well equipped, reliable and good to drive. They are not as refined as some competitors but they are comfortable and spacious vehicles. They are cheap to buy but are not the most exciting vehicles. Does this sound like your experience of the Premacy?

Mazda Premacy History

The first generation (1999-2004) Mazda Premacy was built on the CP platform and when released was one of the cheapest 7 seaters on the market. This vehicle was available in front wheel or all wheel drive and because the design was based on a saloon car it made it easier to manoeuvre than rivals such as the Opel Zafira and Toyota Ipsum. The second generation (2005-10) is only marketed as the Premacy in Japan and is now known as the Mazda5 worldwide. It is based on the Ford C1 platform and is slightly bigger than its predecessor. In 2008 this vehicle had a makeover which meant exterior, interior and mechanical changes. The third generation (2010-present) has a new styling and the engines use the new i-stop start/stop technology which reduces emissions and lowers fuel consumption. This is the current version on the market.

Fuel Economy

The Mazda Premacy is available in 1.8 and 2.0L petrol engines and a 2.0L diesel engine. The 2.0L diesel engine is the more economical of the available engines. Which engine do you have on your Premacy and how does it perform economically? Always consider the engine size, age and fuel type when thinking about fuel economy for a vehicle.

Transmission

The Mazda Premacy is available in 4 or 5 speed automatic and 5 or 6 speed manual gearboxes depending on which version. Which gearbox do you have and how do you rate its performance? We have a section of our website dedicated to Mazda gearbox parts where you can begin to search for your Premacy gearbox parts.
