Toyota 4Runner 4x4 Overview

The Toyota 4Runner 4x4 is classed as a SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) and is produced by the Japanese automakers Toyota Motors. This vehicle has been in production since 1984 and was classed as a compact SUV until 2002, where it changed to a mid-sized SUV. The 4Runner 4x4 is a very good on and off road performer, and is a very comfortable ride. They have good safety features and are well refined, well built vehicles. They compete with the likes of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and are available in three rows of seating, making it a 7-seater. Does this sound anything like your experience of the Toyota 4Runner 4x4?

Toyota 4Runner 4x4 History

The first generation (1984-89) was based on the Toyota pickup and was almost identical to this vehicle with the addition of the fibreglass removable rear roof and the rear seats. The second generation (1989-95) was a totally new design with a brand new body built on an existing design platform. Both the first and second generation models had very poor safety features, scoring one out of five in safety tests. The third generation (1995-2002) looked very similar to the previous version but it was made much more luxurious and moved it up a step in class. This version was designed on the same platform as the Land Cruiser Prado, moving away from the original pickup design. The fourth generation (2002-09) was designed on a new chassis and had a brand new body design which took it from a compact SUV to a mid-sized SUV. The fifth generation (2009-present) is the current version on the market.
