Ford are looking to change from giving their employees a Blackberry smartphone to distributing 6,000 iPhones to employees over the next 2 years.
In a recent Bloomberg report is is said that Ford will distribute 3,300 of the 6,000 iPhones by the end of 2014. The other 2,700 phones will be given out over the next couple of years. It looks like Ford would be a good company to work for, as I certainly would not mind getting a free iPhone from my work!
The phones will be given out on a need to replace basis and will replace the current blackberry smartphones. This replacement will be a full switch from Blackberry to Apple over the next couple of years and will be given only to those employees who qualify for a company phone. Damn, I guess that does not include me. It was also recently announced that Ford will be one of the official partners for the new Apple CarPlay infotainment system.
Sara Tatchio is the Manager for Global Integrated Communications at the Ford Motor Company and this is what she had to say about the iPhone initiative: “We are going to get everyone on iPhones. It meets the overall needs of the employees because it is able to serve both our business needs in a secure way and the needs we have in our personal lives with a single device. Having all employees on the same smartphone will improve security and simplify information technology management. Ford is making “no extra investment” to convert to iPhones, other than the cost of replacing the devices.”
