Have you seen the new taxi expected to hit the streets of London later this year? Nissan are set to develop a version of their NV200 with the taxi amendments being done by ADV Manufacturing at their plant in Coventry. It is expected that the first versions of the NV200 will leave the factory in Coventry in December of this year. Andy Palmer, Nissan's chief planning officer had this to say about the partnership for producing the NV200 taxi going to ADV Manufacturing: "on the basis of its expertise and track record in the production of specialist vehicles, and on its ability to meet Nissan’s rigorous manufacturing standards". The NV200 taxi was first unveiled in London in January 2014 and is set to compete and eventually take over the TX4 London Cab as the main taxi vehicle in London. The NV200 taxi has already hit the streets of New York, Tokyo and Barcelona. The vehicle will be available with a 1.6L petrol engine and an electric version is expected for 2015. The 1.6L petrol version will be more economical and have lower emissions than the TX4 London Cab. It is expected to offer around 40mpg with emissions much lower than the diesel powered TX4. The NV200 is expected to go on sale for around £30,000 which will compete with the current version of the TX4. They will be sold exclusively by the Nissan franchise Glyn Hopkin in a specialist facility in Canary Wharf. The service costs are expected to be lower than that of the TX4. Do you think the NV200 taxi will overtake the now famous TX4 London Cab as the main taxi in London? Let us know what you think in our comments box below.
