The Peugeot 2008 Hybrid Air has some of the latest technology which allows this vehicle to run completely on air when at speeds lower than 40mph. Yes you heard it right, it does run completely on air when at lower speeds! This latest technology will be available from 2016 and will greatly improve the ecological aspect of hybrid vehicles which currently run with a standard combustion engine alongside an electric motor and battery. The Peugeot 2008 Hybrid Air will be available from as little as £16,000. This latest 'air' technology combines a standard petrol engine with a hydraulic air motor and pump. This works by air being pumped into a cylinder using surplus energy from the petrol engine, wheels and heat from the brakes. The air is then released to power the hydraulic motor. The air powered engine produces zero emissions and kicks in automatically at speeds below 43mph. When going up hills a combination of the petrol and air engines are used and at higher speeds, the petrol engine would be used. The Peugeot 2008 Hybrid Air is only one of the Air Hybrid vehicles that will use this technology as other Peugeot and Citroen vehicles will also adopt this technology. The Hybrid Air currently gives around 94mpg but expert engineers reckon that you will be able to get around 117mpg by 2020. What do you think of the Peugeot 2008 Hybrid Air?
