Kia Rio Overview

The Kia Rio is classed as a supermini car and is produced by the South Korean automobile manufacturers Kia Motors. This car has been in production since 2000 and is currently in its third generation. It is a front wheel drive car which has been available as a 3 or 5-door hatchback and a 4-door sedan. The Kia Rio is surprisingly spacious inside the cabin and boot area. It is also very reasonably priced with a great warranty. They are very reliable with good safety features. It is not the greatest ride and is not very well refined. There are better options for a supermini car but the price and space make it worth consideration. Does this sound anything like your experience of the Rio?

Kia Rio History

The first generation (2000-2005) was available in saloon and hatchback forms. This car was known for its affordability but also for poor build quality. In 2002 this car had a makeover which affected the exterior, interior and mechanics of the car. The second generation (2005-2011) received a restyle and was built on a new platform, shared with the Hyundai Accent. This re-design made it slightly larger with better safety features and better fuel economy. In 2010 this car had a makeover which was mainly to the exterior and interior. The third generation (2011-present) is only available in hatchback form and is again based on the Hyundai Accent. This is the current version on the market.
