Volvo 240 Overview
The Volvo 240 is classed as a large family car and was produced by the Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo Cars. This vehicle was in production from 1974-93 and was part of the Volvo 200 series. The Volvo 200 series was introduced in 1974 and the 240 was the best selling car of this series. The 200-series cars were a direct replacement for the 140 series with a very similar body design but improvements to the mechanics of the car. It was intended for the Volvo 700 series to replace the 200-series but it was actually the Volvo 850 that replaced the 200 series. These cars were very reliable, good value for money and very comfortable. They were also spacious and had good safety features now familiar to all Volvo cars. Volvo 240 History
The Volvo 200 series consisted of the Volvo 240 and the Volvo 260. The Volvo 240 had 6 different variations available: 242L, 242DL, 244DL, 245L and 245DL. The 240 was available in saloon, estate and coupe variations. These cars featured some new safety features which made for a much safer car in the event of a crash. Although this car was similar in design to the previous 140 series, it had an all new front end which made it distinguishable from its predecessor. The most popular version of the 240 was the ‘station wagon’ estate car. The 240 ceased production in 1993 when it was replaced with the Volvo 850.
