Skoda Octavia Overview

The Skoda Octavia is classed as a large family car, and is produced by the Czech car manufacturing company Skoda Auto. Skoda has been part of the Volkswagen Group since its takeover in 2000, which really helped improve the image of this car in Western Europe. It is currently available in large hatchback and estate versions. These cars are very cheap to buy, very spacious inside and are comfortable rides. Beware of the base models as they lack in some standard features.

Skoda Octavia History

The first generation Mk1 (1996-2010) was produced at the Skoda factory in Czech Republic in 1996 but wasn’t released in the UK until 1998. It was an instant hit in the UK due to its cheapness and reliability, especially amongst private taxis. The Mk1 had a makeover in 2000 which mainly affected the interior of the car. Although the Mk2 was introduced in 2004, the Mk1 was continued and marketed as the Octavia tour or old Octavia. The second generation Mk2 (2004 - present) is the current version in production and is designed on the VW A5 platform and also has a new range of engines, the same as other cars in the VW Group. In 2009 this car received a makeover which affected the interior, exterior and mechanics of the car. Since the VW takeover, these cars have been known as very reliable and cheap cars, popular across Europe.
