The Volkswagen NMC Concept car was unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show this week. NMC stands for New Midsize Coupe, and if you have not already noticed, it is more of a mid-sized sedan than a coupe. It is built on the same MQB (Modular Transverse Matrix) platform as the Golf and the Skoda Octavia. It is 4.59m long, 1.42m high and 1.83m wide. The concept version comes in 'Dragon Red' and is fitted to 20” alloy wheels. The engine is a 2.0L turbo which is taken from the Golf GTi. It can do 0-100km in 6.5seconds and is combined with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. It can seat up to five people and has an excellent 500 litres of storage space. The exterior design is rather stylish with a new look front grille which seems to blend right into the headlights. The black glass roof slopes into the small boot lid, which I suppose is enough for them to be able to class it as a Coupe. The interior design borrows a lot from the Golf and is why some believe that a production version will not be to far away. “Volkswagen is demonstrating with this concept coupe just how multifaceted the Modular Transverse Matrix is and what exciting models Volkswagen customers all over the world can look forward to over the next few years,” said a Volkswagen spokesperson. The Volkswagen NMC is expected for the Chinese market, then the US market but we are unsure if it would make an appearance in Europe. What do you think about the NMC concept car? Do you think it would be a success in Europe? Let us know what you think by leaving your comments in our comments box below.
