About Cowl Top Panels

Certain  car  parts  exist  to  protect  the  vehicle  against  damage  from  external  sources.  An  important component  to  protect  the  engine  and  other  mechanical  parts  under  the  bonnet  is  the  Rover  cowl  top  panel.  Items  of  debris  such  as leaves,  dirt  and  twigs  can cause  considerable  damage  to  these  expensive  parts  and  the  cowl  top  panel  provides  an  invaluable  shield.

The    Rover  cowl  top  panel  is  situated  at  the  base  of  the  windscreen,  close  to  where  the  windscreen  wipers  are  attached  to  the  car.  It  is  generally  made  from  plastic  and  has  grilles  to  permit  ventilation  but  keep  unwanted  debris  out.

If  a   Rover  cowl  top  panel  is  damaged  it  loses  its  effectiveness  as  a  shield  and  will  need  to  be  replaced.  Fortunately,  most  motor  accessory  dealers  stock  replacement  cowl  top panels  for  all popular models of motor vehicle.

A  replacement   Rover  cowl  top  panel  is  an  inexpensive  accessory  which  is  also  easy to  fit.  In  light  of  the  significant  damage  that  can  be  done  to  the  important  equipment  that  is  housed  beneath  the  bonnet  of  a  car  through  having  a  defective    Rover  cowl  top  panel,  it  is sensible  to  keep  a  check  on  its  condition  and,  in  the  event  of  any  problem,  to  immediately  seek  a replacement part.

Rover trivia

  • In 2003, MG Rover released the CityRover. It didn't sell anywhere close to expectations, and the car company started to seriously struggle as a result.
  • During the 1960s, Rover was forced to cancel several promising car projects. That's because Rover became a corporate partner with Jaguar, and some of the projects they were working on were too similar! The Rover P8 was just one of the victims of this partnership and a prototype was never built.
  • Although there were a few Rover-made cars released in the ‘80s, none of them had the word Rover on any of the badging. Instead, they were called Austins, but they did have a similar, Viking-inspired badge.
  • The Rover 200 and 400 series, commonly known as the R8 Rovers, are also called Wedges by owners, due to their unique shape.
  • Rover worked with the BRM F1 team to make the aptly named Rover-BRM. It took a lap of honour in the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1963 as the first gas-driven prototype sports car.
