About ECU Transmission Control Units

The SEAT ECU transmission control unit is an on-board computer which electronically controls the transmission of the vehicle. TCUs can be separate from, or in this case, attached to the ECU. The SEAT ECU Transmission Control unit contacts sensors that are placed around the vehicle to receive data in order to accurately calculate when to change gears and which gear to use as well as improve fuel economy and drive quality.

These sensors include the vehicle speed sensor, the wheel speed sensor, the throttle position sensor, the turbine speed sensor and the transmission fluid sensor. The TCU also uses data sent from the ECU. This controls and maintains the efficient running of the engine as well as scanning for any abnormalities in its function.

If a SEAT ECU transmission control unit begins to fail, you may notice a loss of power, error message or difficulty in changing gears. This problem can be intermittent at first, and can sometimes be rectified temporarily by turning off your car and turning it back on again after a short while. Ultimately though, any damage to a SEAT ECU transmission control unit will need to be repaired to correct the fault.

SEAT trivia

  • The SEAT factory in Martorell is powered by solar panels and is expected to produce as much as 13 million kWh of electricity every year.
  • In their first year of selling in the UK, SEAT sold a less than impressive 24 cars. By 2017, they were selling just under 4500 every single month.
  • SEAT is an acronym that is much, much easier to say than Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo.
  • SEAT is a Spanish brand, and between 1953 and 1965, they would only make cars for the Spanish market. Their first tentative step to global sales was centred around Columbia, but they now sell to 77 countries around the world.
  • SEAT had a 30-year close relationship with Fiat. However, it ended on a sour note when the companies went their separate ways, and Fiat tried to sue SEAT for similarities between the SEAT Ronda and the Fiat Ritmo. SEAT won the case after using a yellow highlighter to show the court all of the differences between the two cars.
